Website for He Cares Foundation
I semi-finished yesterday the website of a non-government organization, whose projects I featured in a school assignment last year.
The website is ran using CMS Simple, a simple, indeed, content management system. It does not need any database. It took me half a day just to copy, edit, and paste the contents to the website. The site’s theme is FlatBlue.
The host is Pandela.Com, a free, no-advertisement website. The plan I used has 50MB of storage and 4 gigabyte of traffic. I think that would be enough for He Cares.
He Cares Foundation Streetchildren Caring Center is an organization ran by couple Joe Dean and Ardis Sola.
In my interview with Mrs. Sola, I found out that her husband is a former seaman turned drug dependent turned lay missionary.
The idea of setting up of a foundation started with an ensaimada (bread) and softdrinks.
The foundation already have a website, two websites actually. One is Hecaresfoundation.com and Geocities.com/he_cares_foundation. They have the same contents. At left is their website, at the right is what I created.
Why bother to create a website for them? It seems to me that their website is disorganized. I cannot find out what I am looking for. Visitors can’t find out immediately what their programs are, therefore, they wouldn’t know how to help.
But the more important reason is, I believe in their cause. Not everyone would care about people you do not know, specially street children. The foundation does not only streetchildren in their area in Project 4, Quezon City. They literally help build lives of the impoverished sector of our society through building houses and setting up livelihood programs.
When I visited the foundation, I saw young women and mothers making beads and other accessories which are then to be sold to Papemelroti. They are earning a lot there, I think P 250 a day, and they are given free food. The foundation sends people to school, with the help of volunteers and sponsors. Their Balik-Loob sa Diyos program makes the beneficiaries to be closer to God.
I hope that one day, I would be able to help more. But for now, what I can offer is a free re-design of their website.
