The Nikon D40X that the call center, Deal or No Deal and blogging bought - 1

I only had four hours of sleep. I purchased a new Nikon D40X yesterday afternoon in Hidalgo in Quiapo, Manila and was just too excited to blog about it.

Allow me to explain first the reason behind purchasing a camera. I’ve always loved photography and publishing in general. Back in high school, I would always take pictures of our school events. Using a Creative PC Cam, I took pictures of our activities in UP Eulogica. I also became a correspondent for Manila East Watch in 2004. Even though I was mainly a writer, I could not help but take pictures of events I cover.

When Manila East Watch closed in 2004, I was asked to manage our municipality’s newspaper Baras Balita. I was responsible for all the aspects of publication except for the printing itself. I’ve handled two releases so far and I don’t know yet if I will gear for a third one. I barely make money from Baras Balita.

Last August, I was asked by the San Ildefonso Parish in Tanay, Rizal to provide contents to their planned 400th Year Founding Anniversary souvenir book/program. There’s an interesting story behind this. Ruth Elago of WRE Printing Press in Baras (who prints Baras Balita) had a meeting with Rodina Espiritu of the Parish Pastoral Council of Tanay. Ruth has always been the printer of the documents for the parish. In that meeting, the issue of the souvenir book popped up, and Rodina is wondering whom to talk to to assist them. It was then Ruth referred me and her daughter to Rodina.

Her daughter, Mary June, so happened to be a UP Los Banos communication arts graduate. I earlier asked her to become a writer for Baras Balita for the supposed third issue (which has not yet materialized). Mary June, on the other hand, is a friend of Aiza, sister of Ivy Rose Ocampo who was my classmate in elementary. Back in June, I think, I sent messages to my friends asking them if they know anybody who wants to become a correspondent for the newspaper. June was the first to respond the next day. So if you will trace the connection, it goes something like this: Ivy Rose - Aiza - Mary June - Ruth - Espiritu. I then became acquainted with Fr. Pepe Pedraja, parish priest of Tanay.

Basically, I need a camera for my projects.

So much for the background, here comes the real action.
