MMDA hits ‘patok’ jeepneys

I definitely welcome Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s move to confiscate sound systems installed in public utility jeepneys.

You see, taking the jeepney is the cheapest means of transportation in the country. Coming from Baras,Rizal to Eastwood City in libis, Quezon City, I take two jeepney rides. Nothing would be more comforting being able to have a peace of mind (not to mention sleep) in the jeep. This is also the best time for me to plan the things I have to accomplish within the day. Curiously, I become more creative when I’m on travel instead of just sitting or lying around the couch. I was able to think of more ideas that could be integrated in our community newspaper and a church yearbook.

That’s also the best time for you to put on your earphones and hear the music you want from your cellphone or iPod.

I remember one time taking a jeepney from the Batasan Hills (right in front of the House of Representatives) to Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall. I cannot help but to hold a grip in the handle as the jeep literally sways and swerves. We almost figured out an accident. They jeepney driver cannot hear the “para” of the passenger, and when he does, he has to hit the break very hard as the passenger turns irate already. I believe this kinds of jeeps are called patoks. Most of them ply from Cubao to San Mateo or Cogeo.

As I expected, the jeepneys in the Saksi video came from Cubao to Antipolo/San Mateo.
