Joys of commuting and "uwian"

I am not used in staying to a place other than our house here in Baras, Rizal. Back in college, I preferred to endure the two hours of travel instead of staying in a boarding house where I am not accustomed to.

Same thing here in the call center. Since last week, I alternately go home in Baras and our boarding house in Makati. It is cheaper to go to Baras rather in Makati, since  the two-way trip costs P 84. If I stay in Makati, I have to spend P 117 pesos, since I have to take a cab in the wee hours of the day.

Of course, I sleep better if I am in Makati. That’s why after staying in Baras, I’ll spend the next day in Makati. I will arrive at 2:30 am and will sleep until 10 am. After my launch, I will sleep until 3 pm and head to work at 3:30 pm.

There are joys, however, of traveling, specifically commuting since I do not have a car. Last week, I chatted with the taxi driver who told me that I would be his last passenger. The next day, he will be a family driver. He said that he could no longer bear the high crude prices and earnings he has to give to the taxi operator.

The next day, the cab driver said he is lucky to get a passenger in Eastwood. He just dropped off a passenger in front of Citibank. He could no longer make a U-turn since the next U-turn is already in Ortigas Avenue/IPI. Pres. Arroyo, according to him, ordered the closure of the three U-turn slots after she caught traffic last August, where she was late in the opening of the call center in Eastwood.  Well, I don’t have problems with that because once I take a cab from Cembo, there’s no use of those U-turn slots.

You also get to encounter some weird people. While waiting for a ride in Jenny’s in Pasig, there was this man singing “Just Once” with a very slow tune, but still could not catch up with the lyrics. There’s also this sleepy male passenger who keeps on laying his head on my shoulder.

I guess I just have to buy a car. Dream on.
